A. GENERAL SITUATION AND IMPORT-EXPORT OPPORTUNITIES VIETNAM – AUSTRALIA.

In the first quarter of 2022, import and export activities between Vietnam and Australia continued to have strong growth signals. According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, export turnover from Vietnam to Australia in the first four months of 2022 has grown by 32.37% over the same period last year. The total value of two-way turnover reached 4.8 billion USD. In general, Vietnam's exports to Australia reached 1.86 billion USD, up 31.51%; Vietnam's import turnover from Australia reached US$2.95 billion, up 32.92% over the same period last year.

Looking back in 2021, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Australia exceeded the threshold of 12.4 billion USD, up nearly 50% compared to 2020. Export turnover from Vietnam to Australia reached 4.45 billion USD, and Vietnam's import turnover from Australia reached 8 billion USD, an increase of 70% compared to 2020. Australia's transportation and supply chain services have suffered many difficulties due to the impact of Covid-19, floods, and wildfires in 2021. However, we can see that import and export turnover has increased significantly compared to 2020.

One of the strengths of Vietnam's export turnover to Australia is agricultural and aquatic products. In the first four months of 2022, Vietnam recorded that the volume of seafood exports to Australia increased nearly 50% over the same period last year.
Agricultural products also had a significant increase in which vegetables and fruits have increased by 23% and cashew increased by 36%. Especially, coffee recorded an increase of nearly 100%, estimated at 18 million USD in the first four months of 2022.

Besides agricultural and aquatic products, plastic products are also one of the most potential products in the trade turnover between Vietnam and Australia. Currently, Vietnam is Australia's 11th largest supplier of plastic products. In 2021, Vietnam's plastic exports to Australia reached 168 million USA, but only met 1.2% of Australia's total plastic import turnover.

In general, Vietnam and Australia are two countries with great potential for trade.
Currently, Australia is the leading supplier of services and raw materials to the
Vietnamese market. On the contrary, Vietnam also provides high-quality
products at competitive prices for Australia.
